I understand commissioning a portrait can feel daunting and something that stuffy old men require for their banqueting hall, but the reality couldn’t be more different. It’s super easy and such a fun process – a truly precious memory of a point in time.
I take on a few private commissions a year, mostly starting with a meeting where I get to know the subject, do sketches and take photos so the finished piece can strive to capture more than just a likeness but their character and personality. I try to include specific important items like jewellery or a colour palette that is indicative of their personality. I’ll then work out a sketch with composition, size and scheme for approval. The finished piece usually takes a month, from this point, depending on size and complexity. Prices vary from £450 - £5000
Unfortunately, the way I work means I can not use existing photos. For the best result, a meeting is important but in some circumstances, I can work remotely but I do require photos to be taken with my guidance. It’s a very collaborative process and will result in a unique piece.
